Das Dokumentarische. Exzess und Entzug (GRK 2132)

ist an der Fakultät für Philologie der Ruhr-Universität Bochum zum 01. April 2024 folgende Stelle zu besetzen:

1 Postdocstelle (TV-L 13, 100%) (m/w/d)

Die Postdocstelle ist befristet auf maximal zwei Jahre ab dem Datum der erfolgten Einstellung.

Das Graduiertenkolleg behandelt das Dokumentarische als eine zentrale Komponente zeitgenössischer Medienkulturen. In der zweiten Förderphase des Kollegs soll ein Konzept des Dokumentwerdens entfaltet werden, das die Praktiken und technischen Innovationen erfasst, die das Feld des Dokumentierbaren hervorbringen und transformieren. Die im Kolleg organisierte Forschung trägt einerseits den digitaltechnisch angetriebenen Tendenzen einer umfassenden Einschreibung des Dokumentarischen in den Alltag Rechnung und problematisiert andererseits aktuelle politisch motivierte Verwerfungen einer jeden dokumentarisch verbürgten Wahrheit. Die interdisziplinär ausgerichtete Beschäftigung mit dokumentarischen Operationen geschieht in den vier Arbeitsbereichen „Formengeschichte und Theoriebildung des Dokumentarischen“, „Bild- und Textkulturen des Dokumentarischen“, „Selbstdokumentation und Affektkulturen“ sowie „Techno-Politiken und Ästhetiken des Dokumentarischen“.

Das Kolleg ist als strukturierte Graduiertenausbildung für deutsche wie internationale Graduierte konzipiert, die sich in einem Auswahlverfahren durch ihr fachliches Profil und ein herausragendes, interdisziplinär anschlussfähiges und im zeitlichen Rahmen der Förderung realisierbares Forschungsprojekt auszeichnen. Neben 12 Doktorand:innen werden jeweils zwei Post-Doktorand:innen am Kolleg gefördert, die ihr eigenes Post-Doc-Projekt entwickeln und mit ihrer Expertise die Arbeit der Doktorand:innen unterstützen sollen.

Ihre Aufgaben

  • Ausarbeitung eines eigenen Forschungsprojektes im Themenfeld des Graduiertenkollegs. 
  • Aktive Mitwirkung an der Planung, inhaltlichen Gestaltung und Durchführung des Forschungs- und Studienprogramms sowie der Workshops und Veranstaltungen des Kollegs; hier insbesondere die Organisation einer größeren Abschlusstagung des Kollegs im Mai 2025 
  • Mitwirkung an und Betreuung von Publikationen des Kollegs
  • Unterstützung der Doktorand:innen 

Ihr Profil

  • Überdurchschnittlich abgeschlossene Promotion in einem der am Graduiertenkolleg beteiligten Fächer (Medien-, Film-, Literatur-, Theaterwissenschaften, Komparatistik oder Kunstgeschichte) sowie die Bereitschaft, ein einschlägiges Postdoc-Projekt auszuarbeiten. Im Kolleg werden zwei unterschiedliche Postdoc-Phasen gefördert: Zum einen fortgeschrittene Projekte, die einen Abschluss innerhalb von zwei Jahren erwarten lassen; zum anderen Forschungsprojekte, die noch am Anfang stehen und innerhalb von zwei Jahren zur Antragsreife entwickelt werden können.
  • Interesse an interdisziplinären Fragestellungen und an den Arbeitsbereichen des Graduiertenkollegs
  • Sehr gute Kenntnisse der englischen Sprache in Wort und Schrift
  • Fähigkeit zum selbstständigen Arbeiten ebenso wie zur Arbeit im Team, Flexibilität und hohe Einsatzbereitschaft
  • Erfahrungen in der Arbeit in interdisziplinären, drittmittelgeförderten Forschungsverbünden sind von Vorteil

Documentary Practices. Excess and Privation (GRK 2132)

a vacancy for the following positions is available from April 1, 2024 at the Faculty of Philology at the Ruhr-University Bochum:

1 Postdoc position (TV-L 13, 100%) (m/f/x)

The positions are fixed-term employments, limited to max. 2 years. 

The research training group deals with documentary practices as a central component of contemporary media cultures. In the second funding phase of the group, the aim is to develop a concept of ‘becoming document’ (Dokumentwerden), exploring the practices and technical innovations which produce and transform the field of the documentable. On the one hand, the research organized in the group takes into account the tendency towards an extensive inscription of the digital into everyday life, a development driven by digital technology; on the other hand, it problematizes the current politically motivated rejection of any truth based on documentary proof. The interdisciplinary study of documentary operations is pursued in four areas of work: “The Formal History and Theorization of Documentary Practices”, “Visual and Textual Cultures of Documentary Practices”, “Self-Documentation and Cultures of Affect”, and “Techno-Politics and Aesthetics of Documentary Practices”.

The research group is conceived as a structured graduate training programme for German and international graduates. The selection process takes into account the candidates’ academic profiles and their proposed research projects, which must be of exceptional quality, suitable for an interdisciplinary approach, and achievable within the funding period. In addition to 12 doctoral students, two post-doctoral students are employed at the college, who not only promote their own post-doctoral project, but also support the work of the doctoral students with their expertise.

Your tasks

  • development of your own research project within the topic area of the research group. We are striving to win a literary research project for one of the two advertised positions.
  • active involvement in the planning, design and delivery of the research and study programme, and the workshops of the research group; esp. the leading preparation of a larger interdisciplinary conference, which is to take place in may 2025
  • involvement in and supervision of publications of the research group
  • supporting the doctoral students

Your profile

  • an above-average, completed doctorate in one of the subjects represented in the research group (media studies, film studies, literature, theatre studies, comparative literature or art history) and a willingness to develop a relevant postdoc project. Two different postdoc phases are funded in the research group: on the one hand, advanced-stage projects which can be expected to be completed within two years; on the other hand, new research projects which are just at the beginning and which can be developed to a stage suitable for further funding within two years.
  • an interest in interdisciplinary questions and in the areas of work of the research training group
  • a very good command of written and spoken English
  • an ability to work both independently and as part of a team; flexibility and dedication
  • experience of working in interdisciplinary, third-party-funded research associations is an advantage
